Nestled in the heart of San Gabriel, Ducks restaurant is a small Japanese cuisine establishment. This cozy establishment boasts an inviting ambiance that blends both American and Japanese culture. The interior of Ducks is cutely decorated, with warm lighting and small duck trinkets everywhere. It makes it perfect for both intimate dinners and casual gatherings. The space is thoughtfully laid out, with comfortable seating that encourages a leisurely dining experience. This location also offers a selection of manga to read while dining in. The service is attentive and friendly. The staff was able to quickly get me settled in with my ordered placed. The menu contains a wide variety of Japanese food from Donburi rice bowls, Udon, Curry, and Ramen. I opted for the Katsudon, and the flavor was absolutely amazing. I love the crispy katsu mixed with the sweet-savory soy infused rice. Please keep in mind that the dish will take roughly 15-20 mins to arrive to the table.

Stopped by in July 2024 and tried their oyakodon with chicken karaage and egg for $16.95 Meat was tender and complimented by egg and sweet soy flavors. Katsudon $16.95 or pork cutlet bowl was good and seemed to use the same #sauce but the #chicken actually wins out for me. 勝つ! Both entrees came with a small salad. Had yuzu and matcha cheesecakes (~$8 for two slices) to finish but they made me want more! Not too sweet and is cold -- perfect for summer. Ducks taste like food you can get at diners in Japan and portions are fair. The AC was not working (or just don't have them?) during this meal so gotta take points off for that . The irony of Ducks is that they don't have the bird on the menu, but it is solely worth a visit for their cute rubber duck collection and duck themed decor! They also have a manga corner to browse through with a couple, very fittingly, being food themed! (Cross posted on IG @aycefoodme)

I ordered the pork cutlet curry rice and was pleasantly impressed. I chose spicy and surprisingly it was the perfect amount of kick. The outside of the cutlet was also so crispy and paired so well with the steamy rice. I just wish they gave more of the little red radish because it really helped elevate the flavor. I also enjoyed the small cabbage salad, it was a very nice pairing. The service was pretty okay. I went during lunchtime with my friend so it was pretty busy but the lady let us in early since it was just the two of us. I would say the ambiance is very cute and hom-ey. I really don't enjoyed the rubber duckies on the window and the manga book shelf. Overall, the vibe felt like a home cooked meal.

This restaurant is located at the corner of the plaza. Parking can fill up quickly, so you may have a tough time finding parking during busy hours. It feels a bit small on the inside and appears more suitable for small to middle size parties. The katsudon had a sweet soy sauce and egg on the top layer, pork cutlet in the middle, and a layer of rice on the bottom. It also came with some cabbage salad. The katsudon had a large portion and tasted good. The cabbage salad was on the bland side. For the karaage chicken, there was a lot of pieces. It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside!
